The University of Manchester East Asia Centre opened 2026 with an engaging masterclass on 7 January, welcoming Professor João Quariguasi Frota Neto to Hong Kong for a session on the opportunities and challenges of the circular economy.

Held at the East Asia Centre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, the event brought together professionals, alumni, and current MBA candidates to explore how businesses can turn sustainability into strategic advantage. Professor Frota Neto drew on his internationally recognised research to illustrate why some product recovery markets, such as remanufacturing, recycling, and reuse, offer stronger returns than others, and presented tools to evaluate the attractiveness of new circular initiatives.
