“Challenge Accepted” Campaign Launch in East Asia

Hong Kong Hosts Global Campaign Launch

Hong Kong marked the final stop in The University of Manchester’s inaugural global fundraising and volunteering campaign #ChallengeAccepted, with the official launch held at the Repulse Bay Marquee on 21 March 2026. The evening brought together close to 130 guests from across East Asia, including Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau, and the Greater Bay Area.

Professor Duncan Ivison, President and Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Manchester, addressed the audience with a powerful message: “The world confronts profound and complex challenges, and the path before us will not be easy. Yet by coming together through rigorous research, purposeful volunteering, and steadfast philanthropy, we will address those challenges and transform lives. Every contribution, whether large or modest, helps to write the next chapter of Manchester’s story. Together, we accept the challenge!”

This campaign launch, alongside student-focused initiatives at the East Asia Centre, highlights how the Global MBA journey is enriched not only through academic rigor but also through opportunities to engage with the University’s global mission. By participating in events like these, students become part of a lifelong community of learning, volunteering, philanthropy, and impact.

Inspiring Narratives and Community Spirit

The evening featured thoughtful presentations and wide-ranging conversations that invited reflection on the responsibilities and opportunities we face as a global academic community. Donna Buckland, Chair of the Alliance Manchester Alumni Association (Hong Kong), and Patrick Vizzone, President of the Hong Kong Foundation Manchester Board, shared personal narratives that prompted guests to consider why and how we might give back to the institution that shaped their lives and careers. Their reflections reminded us that when the University thrives, its reputation and impact elevate us all, extending benefits to individuals and societies worldwide.

A Celebration of East Asia’s Spirit of Giving

East Asia has long been admired for its resilience, decency, and strong spirit of giving. The Hong Kong launch exemplified this ethos, turning collective goodwill into a legacy of which we are all proud as Mancunians. The event underscored the University’s commitment to building a global community where students, alumni, and partners contribute to lasting impact.
