The University of Manchester East Asia Centre was invited to attend the vibrant Full Moon Shenzhen Mid-Autumn Festival celebration last Saturday, September 5th.
With over 500 professionals and overseas alumni from British universities, Australian universities, and American universities gathering in one place, it was an incredible celebration of unity, achievement, and networking. A special thank you goes to Shirley Chen, Chairlady of the University of Manchester Alumni Association (Guangdong), for inviting us to be part of this wonderful event.
The festive atmosphere featured energetic dance and singing performances, lucky draws courtesy of generous sponsors, and a playful cosplay theme. Attendees embraced nostalgia by dressing as beloved childhood icons, from Sailor Moon and Disney princesses to Marvel superheroes. Representing the East Asia Centre at the event, our Strategic Partnership and Admissions Senior Executive, Brendan Lai, fully embraced the spirit by dressing as Mickey Mouse!
Reflecting on the night's electric energy, Brendan noted that the most breathtaking moment was a musical fusion blending the piano and violin with traditional Chinese instruments—the pipa and guzheng. This stunning east-meets-west collaboration served as a powerful metaphor for the evening, mirroring how talented overseas alumni bring global knowledge back home to create impact.
Amidst the networking and celebrations, many alumni also expressed a strong desire for continuous learning and career advancement.
